Richard
Kwakye Danquah
Artistic Director and Choreographer
It
is with deep sadness we inform you that our artistic director Richard
Danquah (see photo) Tuesday 10 October 2006 died at Ullevål
Hospital in Oslo, Norway. 36 years old. After many weeks in respirator.
It has been a long and very hard time for him and his family. Numerous
surgeries, so much pain, so many ups and downs.
Richard Danquahs death is incomprehensible for us all. It
is such a loss and such a tragedy for the community of professional
performers as well as supporters of African Culture in general and
of traditional dance and music. It is also a deep and personal loss
for everybody who was close to him.
An
instructor in traditional African Dance and Music at the University
of Oslo and Nordic Black Theatre School in Oslo (Norway), Danquah
has conducted research on various aspects of traditional music and
dance in different countries in Africa. He has also taught, lectured
and performed at notable venues in Africa and Europe.
With
over thirty choreographed pieces to his credit, Danquah´s
contribution to the development of the Arts in Ghana and indeed
Africa cannot be underestimated.
